April 10 - National Bicycle Helmet Day
April 10 - National Bicycle Helmet Day
Today is National Bicycle Helmet Day. The aim of this day is to draw attention to the importance of the bicycle helmet among young and old, and thus reduce the risk of brain injury after a bicycle accident.
The National Bicycle Helmet Day is an initiative of "Artsen voor veilig fietsen" in collaboration with the "HersenStrijd" Fund and the "Hersenstichting". Activities are organized throughout the country to make cyclists aware of the importance of a bicycle helmet. Extra attention is paid to older (e)bikers and children.
Bicycle helmet reduces the risk of serious injury by 60 percent
Did you know that the Netherlands is the only country in the world where more people die in traffic while cycling than in a car? And while wearing a bicycle helmet reduces the risk of serious head and/or brain injury in the event of a collision or fall by 60 percent, and the risk of fatal head or brain injury even by 70 percent.
If every Dutch person wore a bicycle helmet, there would be an estimated 85 fewer road deaths and 2,500 to 2,600 serious road injuries per year. Reason enough to make a case for wearing a bicycle helmet on every bicycle.
Naturally, Buzaglo fully supports this initiative and stimulates the sale of safe bicycle helmets with a special purchasing campaign to wholesalers.
Buzaglo also believes: “Use your head, put it on!”
